WHAT IS A
SENSORY FRIENDLY
PERFORMANCE?

Sensory friendly performances are designed for neurodivergent patrons who may be on the autism spectrum or experience other sensory, social, and cognitive needs... and their families!

Attendees will experience live theatre in a “shush-free” environment. Patrons are free to experience the performance in whatever way is best for them and are able to leave their seats during the performance (under supervision of those accompanying them as needed).

Check out a SOCIAL NARRATIVE for more information about about seeing a show at the Johnson County Arts and Heritage Center (updated 11/21/2025).

WHAT DOES A SENSORY FRIENDLY PERFORMANCE
LOOK LIKE?

  • You will see the whole show! The show is about an hour long and there will be NO intermission.

  • The theater's house lights will remain on at a low setting during the entire performance, but there WILL be flashing theatrical lighting during the performance.  There will alos be theatrical fog.  It is water based fog.

  • Attendees are welcome to bring their own quiet manipulatives/fidgets, comfort objects, etc. to the performance.

  • Patrons are encouraged to bring their own noise canceling headphones or earplugs if they feel they may need them to enjoy the production. This production contains LOTS of music and singing!

  • Snacks and drinks are allowed in the theater. Attendees may bring their own.

HOW DO I RESERVE SEATS FOR MY FAMILY/GROUP?

Good news - this is a NO COST performance! (But still requires a reservation.)

Regular theater seats will be available as well as a limited number (29) of bean bag chairs.

Seating is first come, first serve.

If your group has an ADA seating request, please let us know on you reservation form.  The front row is eight chairs on the ground, but all other rows are up a couple of stairs per row.

As seating is limited, please reserve only the number of tickets your group needs. If something comes up and you are unable to attend, please complete a cancellation form.

Tickets can be reserved starting Monday December 1, 2025 at 9:00am
Ticket reservations end on Saturday December 13,2025 at noon.
The cancellation form will be available until Sunday December 14, 2025 at 9am.
